ROAD TEST - 2009 Mercury Mariner - also a hybrid!

Mercury Mariner - and its identical twin Ford Escape - are among the few mid-size SUV's that's also available as a gas-sipping clean Hybrid, in addition to its 4-cyl and 6-cyl engine choices. The line is part of Ford's commitment to producing more fuel efficient vehicles.

They are nice drivers, too. Inside, Mariner has a higher quality feel and luxury than expected. Seats are comfortable, interior is quiet and roomy, accessories are abundant and useful. Its available with GPS Nav and host of options and accessories to match your lifestyle, including iPod and gaming interface and DVD entertainment.

Top rival is the Toyota Highlander (standard or Hybrid), and Mariner compares well in price, quality and finish. Mercury Mariner prices start at $22,640 with 4cyl, which gets up to 28-mpg (test vehicle), and up to 31-mpg in the Hybrid model.
