ROAD TEST: 2010 Hyundai Genesis Sedan

At first glance, we did not think we were looking at a Hyundai. This car reminds you of a much more expensive luxury car. The fit and finish on the newest car in the Hyundai lineup is equal to any of its competitors. Hyundai's image has improved and with the new Genesis Sedan it has taken a huge step forward.

The interior is quite plush. Leather wrapped steering wheel, leather door panels, leather dash pad, and of course leather covered seats. The seats are finely crafted, snug and well supportive just as you would expect from this quality car. They come with heating and cooling to keep you comfortable in all conditions. The 160-mph speedometer and the 8,000-rpm tachometer are properly placed along with the brake and accelerator pedals to insure comfort on those long drives.

Put fire to the Genesis' 4.6 liter, 32-valve V8 engine, and it puts out 375-bhp at 6,500-rpm and 333-lbs-ft of torque at 3,500-rpm. At idle, you can barely hear it running. But mash the accelerator and it comes to life. The engine shifts through the 6-gears in the ZF automatic transmission. Even at higher speeds the car is very tight and quiet, with little to no road noise or vibration. The new Genesis is very well insulated and you can feel the quality of the chassis' design and engineering.

The handling of this car is most impressive. It is very neutral in tight corners and it handles the high speed corners just as well. The new 5-link front and rear suspension system provides very quick response to all road conditions.

Braking is nicely accomplished through the 13.8-inch vented front discs with 4-piston calipers working with the 12.4-inch solid rear discs. The ABS works through Hyundai's electronic brake force distribution system.

With Hyundai's standard 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty, and a base price of $33,000 for the V6 and $38,000 for the V8, we believe this sedan will do quite well in the competitive luxury car market.
