PROJECT CAR: 1994 Isuzu Rodeo LS 2WD V6

Our current and ongoing project vehicle for testing aftermarket, replacement and OEM parts is this very sharp 1994 Isuzu Rodeo LS, 2-wheel drive, 4-door, 3.2-liter V6 EFI engine. We chose this vehicle because of its modern-good looks, easy availability of parts and accessories, and low purchase price. Our goal is to demonstrate a solid update/refresh of a vehicle like this for under $7,500 including purchase, and all parts/labor.

It's equipped with the automatic transmission that also features "Winter" and "Power" modes; power steering, power anti-locking brakes, power door locks, sunroof, cruise control, air conditioning, rear defrost, rear-mounted spare tire w/cover, tinted windows, cloth interior.

After acquiring the vehicle and giving it a basic cleaning and engine servicing, we took a trip to the salvage yard and obtained some hard-to-find bits, like a missing ashtray, sun visor clip, and passenger side headlight lens. Now we've identified the major key areas that we'll be covering and featuring during this project:

CHASSIS & SUSPENSION:

Tires - our replacement tires are first on the list, and we'll be deciding which tire fitment shortly.

Brakes - are working fine, but considering the mileage, we'll be replacing the brakes.

Shock Absorbers - the ride is a bit spongy, so a good set of shock absorbers are a must to improve our ride quality.

UNDERHOOD:

Basic engine servicing is complete, but we'll be servicing the transmission, flushing the radiator, and tuning-up the engine.

The windshield washer pump and tank need replacing, and we'll also replace the belts, hoses and spark plugs.

INTERIOR & TRIM:

Carpet Set - the entire carpet set will be replaced.

Seat/soft goods - the seating (including foam) will be replaced, including the center console arm rest.

Electronics - we'll be replacing the factory CD player and adding GPS Navigation, Satellite Radio, i-Pod connectivity, Bluetooth, and a rear seat entertainment system.

All of the glass except the windshield is good, so we'll replace the front glass.

PROJECT PARTNERS:
We'll be adding information and reviews of products and equipment furnished for this project vehicle as they arrive from our project partners.
